FUORISALONE 2026: DESIGN AS A LIVING ACT
How 'Be the Project' reframes design as transformation, responsibility, and human connection
For its 2026 edition, Fuorisalone adopts the theme 'Be the Project' — a concept that goes beyond the boundaries of traditional exhibition to position design as something deeply personal and perpetually evolving. Rather than presenting finished objects or resolved ideas, the theme invites participants and visitors alike to understand themselves as active agents of change, embedded within a broader creative and social process that is never truly complete.
At its core, 'Be the Project' frames design not as a discipline confined to studios and showrooms, but as an ongoing dialogue — one that continuously reshapes the relationships between people, the objects they create, and the environments they inhabit. It is a call to move from passive consumption to conscious participation, acknowledging that every design decision carries with it a degree of responsibility toward communities, ecosystems, and future generations.

The theme also opens the conversation to emerging intelligences, most notably artificial intelligence. Rather than positioning AI as a threat or a replacement for human creativity, Fuorisalone embraces it as a collaborative presence — a tool that challenges established ways of thinking and expands the boundaries of what design can imagine, propose, and build. In this context, technology becomes not an endpoint but a catalyst, pushing designers to ask deeper questions about authorship, process, and intent.
In a world defined by rapid and often disorienting change, Fuorisalone 2026 calls for a renewed understanding of design as a form of knowledge and storytelling. Across the neighborhoods and venues that animate Milan during Design Week, the city itself becomes a living canvas — a place where cultures, materials, and ideas converge to imagine a future that is more sustainable, more conscious, and more deeply interconnected. 'Be the Project' is ultimately an invitation: to stop observing design from a distance and to step fully into it, as both its author and its subject.
